He provided the latest update on her condition on Sunday night (23 November).
Dr. F. M. Siddiqee stated that Begum Zia has developed an infection in her chest, and complications have also affected her heart and lungs. She will remain under the close supervision of the medical board for the next 12 hours.
BNP Standing Committee member and Begum Zia’s personal physician Professor Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hossain said it is not yet possible to confirm how many days she will have to stay in the hospital. The duration will depend entirely on her physical condition.
Earlier on Sunday around 7:30 PM, Begum Khaleda Zia left her residence, Firoza, for Evercare Hospital. She was later admitted for a series of medical examinations. At that time, her personal physician Dr. Al Mamun stated that she was hospitalized for several health-related tests.
Just two days earlier, on Friday (21 November) afternoon, Begum Zia attended the Armed Forces Day reception at Senakunja. According to members of her press wing, she participated in the event based on the advice of the medical board.
Begum Khaleda Zia has long been suffering from multiple chronic health complications, including arthritis, diabetes, kidney issues, lung conditions, and vision problems. On January 7, she travelled to London for advanced medical treatment. After receiving treatment there for 117 days, she returned to Bangladesh on May 6. Since her return, she has been taken to Evercare Hospital regularly for medical check-ups.
